DON'T MESS WITH NETWATCH
As the two NetWatch agents made their way through the deserted streets of Night City, they couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. They were on a mission to neutralize a rogue netrunner who had been hiding out in an abandoned building for weeks, and they knew it wouldn't be an easy task.
As they approached the building, they could see that it had been heavily fortified with all sorts of high-tech security measures. But the agents had been trained for this, and they quickly found a way in through a back entrance.
Once inside, they made their way through the maze-like corridors, their senses on high alert for any sign of danger. Eventually, they reached the room where the netrunner was holed up, surrounded by a complex array of cables and wires.
"Netrunner, you have been identified as having stayed too long behind the black wall. Your actions are in violation of NetWatch protocol, and we have been authorized to neutralize you," one of the agents said, her voice cool and professional.
The netrunner looked up at them, his eyes filled with a mix of fear and defiance. "You can't do this," he said. "I've been working to break through the black wall. I've almost made it."
But the agents had no sympathy for him. They knew the dangers of spending too much time beyond the wall, and they had a duty to protect the net. Without further ado, they activated their weapons and began to fire.
The netrunner tried to fight back, using his skills to manipulate the digital world around them. But the agents were too well-trained, and they quickly overpowered him. As they continued to fire, they could see the netrunner's movements becoming more and more sluggish, until finally he collapsed to the ground, motionless.
The agents quickly confirmed that the netrunner was indeed neutralized, and they began to pack up their equipment. As they left the building, they couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. They had done their duty and protected the net from a dangerous rogue element.
But as they made their way back to their headquarters, they couldn't shake the feeling that there was something deeply unsettling about what they had just done. They had essentially erased a person's thoughts and consciousness, leaving nothing but a lifeless shell behind. It was a stark reminder of the dark side of their work, and the toll it could take on even the most hardened agents.
And yet, they knew that it was a necessary sacrifice to ensure the safety and stability of the net. It was a difficult balance, but one that they had to maintain if they were to continue to protect the digital world that was so essential to human life in Night City.
